PREMISE: WHY ARE WE IN THE MARKETPLACE?

Why are we in the marketplace and what can we do to make the marketplace our mission field?

Marketplace leadership starts with the “WHY” we are in the marketplace in the first place. I want to open this course by addressing the all-important question as to what our desires are and what we want to accomplish. Is it making money? Becoming wealthy? Achieving professional success or status? Is it for any other reasons that we are in the marketplace?

The WHY must be answered because it directs where, how and how much we focus, efforts. In the end, the "WHY" determines our direction in the marketplace and succss as marketplace leaders.

MODULE 1: SIX KEY PRINCIPLES OF SERVANT LEADERSHIP

This 17-Minutes video lays the premise or foundation behind what true marketplace leadership is. In this module, you will learn six key principles of true leadership. A few of the subjects covered include: Marketplace leaders lead by action and not word alone. True servant leaders don't brag about their accomplishments because what is seen is greater that what is self-promoted. Good marketplace leaders understand that all leaders are under the authority of God, and as such we are truly servants-servant leaders.

MODULE 2: DOING THE RIGHT THING: Long Term Value Not Short Term Gain

True leadership is defined by “doing the right thing” as opposed to doing the wrong thing. Doing “the right thing” however runs in contrast to the growing secular economic pressure which is putting downward pressure to obtain short-term success at the expense of “doing the right thing”.

We will look at the ethics and moral values that allow for us bring value to our customers, company and the marketplace by DOING THE RIGHT THING-Fostering Long Term Value, Not Short Gain. In this module I am going to show you that despite the current secular trend of obtaining short-term success and profit at the cost of long-term business, that doing “the right thing” is more profitable and rewarding.

MODULE 3: ETHICAL LEADERSHIP

True leaders adhere to the timeless moral and ethical standards that have governed the world for thousands of years. But while most modern-contemporary leaders recognize and even acknowledge these timeless moral standards, they rarely esteem or hold them in any form of high regard. In today's module I am going to show you how you and I as marketplace leaders can be individuals who live and lead by a set of unmovable, unchangeable (ultimate) principles that will help us better live and lead without compromise-even under the pressure of expediency. In return, by applying these timeless moral and ethical standards we can and will turn this world right side up again!

MODULE 4: SERVANT LEADERS MUST ADAPT QUICKLY

In the 21st century, with the advent of technology, and the increased pace of business and life, it’s unquestionable that being a business, organization or government leader in today’s world is much more challenging than ever before.

Today's leader is expected to allow for tasks, goals, and work itself to be carried out by the employees who can most effectively do so. This means that they must adapt quickly; often on the spot. Today’s marketplace leader must listen to and protect their up and coming leaders in order to build a strong, healthy, value added organization.

MODULE 5: SHOULD CHRISTIANS BE RICH?

Is it biblically right for a Christian to be wealthy? Does the bible say that wealth should be avoided and not retained? Today I am going to show you that while God richly gives us many things to enjoy (1 Timothy (6:17), He also warns us “not…to trust in uncertain riches”. There is nothing wrong with “possessing riches “but there is something wrong with “being possessed by those riches”.

MODULE 6: CHARACTER IS THE ISSUE

It doesn’t matter if you are a Christian, atheist, Muslim, or Hindu, people are watching and judging you by primarily thing which is your character.

Today I’m going to show you why developing Christian character is not an option, but a necessary for marketplace leadership. Why? Because a failure to develop biblical character is a failure to be sanctified, used by God, grow in your faith and lead in the market and your family. When we fail to display godly character, we hurt one another and destroy our witness to the world. In the end character is the issue.

MODULE 7: TIME MANAGEMENT-Failure to plan is to plan to fail

The problem for many of us is that we are not very good at how we manage our time as something useful, efficient, and effective. Wasting time is a sin because it’s a waste of the opportunity’s God has given each one of us. When we waste time, opportunities are lost. Time is our most precious commodities, and that commodity is limited. As such, it is essential for marketplace leaders to use their time efficiently.

MODULE 8: ACHIEVING MEANING AND PURPOSE

By defining a clear PURPOSE in your personal life and your organization, you will gain a clear “WHY” you get up every morning as opposed to just THAT you get up. As a result, having a clear vision and purpose leads to greater success, profit, market share and value add in the marketplace. I want to caution you that this also entails moving from prioritizing money as second in life to serving others and making a difference in the lives of your employees and customers you serve in the marketplace as first.

MODULE 9: Unity Is A Leader's Priority

In this WRAP UP Video Module, Steven Garofalo stresses the importance of unity as the core component to all the other modules covered in this course. It's essential that as marketplace leaders, that we model servant leadership within a spirit of unity. “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand"-Jesus Christ (Matthew 12:25). The Apostle Paul said, "I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought" (1 Corinthians 1:10). If we as leaders are unified with all people of all backgrounds, ethnicities and otherwise, we will stand out as different-leaving an impression reflecting back to the source of fairness, strength, wisdom...and leadership.
